Abstract.
In this article the problem of the personal freedom of an individual and the process of his or her transformation into a free independent citizen are considered. In the article the basic ideas of personal freedom in the works of the most outstanding thinkers of Renaissance and New Time are presented. The authors deals with the ideas of Russian philosophy of freedom, the western philosophy of existentialism and the question of becoming of a free and responsible person of modern Russia.
