Abstract. The article is devoted to the target language culture in antiquity and Middle Ages which is now one of the most interesting in translation theory and practice. The author considers the problem of inter-language stylistic equivalence in communicative-pragmatic aspect by the example of historical texts and finds out which basic qualities must provide the adequacy of translated texts with the originals.
