Abstract.
The author reconstructs the intellectual biography of A. Houtin - one of modernist movement leaders in Roman Catholicism, and tells that the chosen genre of microhistory allows reaching more global level of generalization stating the problem of Church intellectual dictatorship and the ways of overcoming it chosen by the priests, who sought to the free search for truth.
