Abstract.
The author reveals the constitutional regulation of a citizen's rights and freedoms protection principle in the criminal legal proceedings of Russia, and pays special attention to the importance of empowering a criminal procedure participant with the opportunity to exercise his rights in accordance with the principle of competition; and to the specificity of the legal relationships on an individual's rights and freedoms protection in criminal procedure, which point is that public authorities and officials must create all the conditions for the exercise of an individual's rights and freedoms, and to explain to the process participants their rights and liabilities, to ensure their use.
