Abstract. The authors present the philosophical futurological analysis of electronic virtual reality (EVR), substantiate the difference between the methods of studying the discovery and the methods of researching the invention, suggest a new method for studying EVR – “over-the-horizon”, allowing revealing the essence and functions of EVR as a fundamentally new type of invention of the end of the XX th century, and conduct the futurological analysis in two aspects: in the aspect of existential-constructive function and in the aspect of the dialectical law of the negation of the negation.
