CONFUCIAN VIEWS ON FAMILY AND THEIR INFLUENCE ON THE VIETNAMESE FEUDAL SOCIETY

Abstract. The author analyzes the basic ideas of the Confucian conception of family and its influence on the Vietnamese feudal society, concludes that some positive elements of the Confucian conception of family should be developed in the Vietnamese modern society, mentions among them the following: harmony between husband and wife, kind father, filial respect and brothers’ mutual aid; and adds that nevertheless conservative ideas and ideas that contradict democracy introduced by Confucianism into the Vietnamese feudal society should be criticized and eliminated, among them mentions the following: too high status of father and husband in the family, the cult of family or clan interests, nepotism as a way of life and work.
