Abstract.
The publication for the first time examines the work of the Department of Ethnography and Anthropology of the History Faculty of Saint Petersburg State University on studying the Vepsians - one of the Baltic-Finnish peoples of Russia. This ethnos studying was based for the most part on the field research conducted during the expeditionary activity of the teachers and students of the Department. The findings were represented in course and diploma papers, presentations at scientific conferences, publications, educational courses. Currently they implement the digitization of the field materials stored in the Department archive and their submission in electronic form.
