Abstract.
In the article the attendance of the Don region by Grand Duke Nikolay Nikolayevich the younger in May 1914 is considered. The object of this journey was not only to meet the leaders of the region but to reveal the military and moral readiness of the Cossacks on the threshold of future battles in the fields of actions of the First World War. The Grand Duke visited not only the capital of the Don Army - the town of Novocherkassk - but also a number of stanitsas of Cherkassk district and Proval'skii stud farm for a fuller picture of the reality.
