Abstract.
In the article conceptual approaches to the problems of the authenticity of cultural heritage in theoretical museology are considered. The object of the research is the discussion of the leading specialists-museologists of the last quarter of the XX century within the framework of the symposium of ICOFOM “Originals and Substitutes in Museums” (1985). The aim of the author is to comprehend the prospects of authenticity study in connection with the phenomenology of the museum, museum object and museum collections in the context of ideas about the museum mission in society. The researcher comes to the conclusion about the necessity of interdisciplinary approach to the study of authenticity problems in culture and in the museum.
