Abstract.
The conception of the research is determined by the interpretation of the language of art as a special form of symbolic creativity (the process of endowing symbolic value to aesthetic phenomena conditioned by cultural and historical context). The article is devoted to the identification of functions performed by art and its language in the life of the individual and society. The central problem of the work is the analysis of the functions of the language of art as a special hierarchical system.
