Abstract.
The article is devoted to the activity of the Directorate General of Trade Navigation and Ports in the Russian Empire. Special attention is paid to the issues of making laws and rules that regulated the activity of shipping companies, ships’ officials and the Directorate General itself, the internal organization of maritime educational institutions. It is concluded that for the short period of its activity the Directorate General of Trade Navigation and Ports made a lot for the development of the domestic commercial fleet and the system of maritime education.
