Abstract.
The article examines the change of legislative basis after the adoption of new policy on the Indian problem by Richard Nixon’s administration in 1970. The author provides an analysis of different bills that were adopted by the USA government in the period from 1968 till 1978, and their influence on the Native Americans’ life. On the basis of available sources the paper concludes that the laws were aimed to improve many spheres of the life of the Native Americans in the contemporary society. Internal and external factors served as a breeding ground for changing the state policy regarding the Indian problem.
