BOULEUTERION IN MEGALOPOLIS: RESULTS OF ARCHAEOLOGICAL DIG

Abstract.
The article deals with the results of the study of the council building in Megalopolis, which were obtained during the dig of a German archaeological expedition in 1991-2003. The German archaeologists revealed two phases in the development of bouleuterion, identified the date of its building, made the reconstruction of the appearance of the council building and found out that the bouleuterion in phase II had been destroyed by the earthquake, but then was restored. The authors raise a topical question about the number of the council in Megalopolis that wasn’t solved during the dig and demands further research.
