Abstract. The article aims to clarify the ontological and gnoseological senses of Immanuel Kant’s foundations: thing in itself and happening, noumenon and phenomenon, transcendental, immanent and transcendent. The author identifies and analyzes their meanings, mutual interdependence and the limits of application in theoretical philosophy emphasizing the unacceptability of interpreting Kant’s doctrine as a dualistic one allegedly combining “materialistic” and “idealistic” aspects.
