Forming 5th-11th-Grade Pupils’ Soft Skills during the Russian Language Competitions

Abstract. The paper summarizes experience of organizing competitions that promote formation of 5th-11th-grade pupils’ soft skills (XXI-century skills). The author identifies techniques to develop learners’ soft skills, such as creative and critical thinking, cooperativity and communication. Scientific originality of the study lies in the fact that the researcher describes the process of forming XXI-century skills taking into account the potential of modern educational environment. The research findings are as follows: it is proved that schoolchildren’s participation in the Russian language competitions largely promotes formation of their soft skills.
