Contemporary challenges in developing foreign language speaking skills in schoolchildren: from problem analysis to pedagogical solutions

Abstract. The aim of the study is to identify pedagogical problems in forming school students’ speaking communicative skills during the development of oral foreign language speech within the framework of the implementation of the Federal State Educational Standard of Secondary General Education (FSES SGE) for foreign languages and possible ways to address them. The article systematizes knowledge on foreign language oral speech formation and analyzes survey results from Tyumen school teachers regarding the current state of developing speaking communicative skills. The study’s scientific novelty lies in a comprehensive approach to analyzing the modern situation in developing school students’ oral foreign language speech, combining systematization of theoretical knowledge, review of teacher survey data on oral foreign language teaching, and development of specific pedagogical recommendations. The study established a significant gap between theoretical understanding of oral foreign language speech development and its practical implementation. The authors proposed recommendations for improving pedagogical practices in teaching school students oral foreign language speech. The pedagogical recommendations presented in the article, within the scope of forming school students’ speaking communicative skills under the FSES SGE, include shifting the teaching focus to solving real communicative tasks, orienting assessment toward dialogic and polylogic communication forms, creating a favorable and individualized environment for oral practice, expanding the range of digital tools, and strengthening digital competencies of both students and teachers.
