The first (initial) stage of professional development of navigation cadets: a quasi-experimental study based on a diversified educational-methodological complex

Abstract. The study aims to verify the technology of professional development among navigation cadets at the first (initial) stage of higher education, implemented through a diversified educational-methodological complex (EMC) for the discipline “Hydrometeorological Support of Navigation”. The article substantiates a theoretical forecast linking professional development with the primacy of the motivational determinant. A quasi-experimental design (2023/24-2025/26 academic years; N = 294; Experimental Group = Control Group = 147) is presented, during which the EMC was developed and refined. The scientific novelty lies in developing and experimentally verifying a technology for professional development at the initial stage, incorporating six aspects of EMC diversification (conventional, methodological, typological, contextual, evaluative, and subject-activity-based), which are defined by the professional functions of a deck officer according to the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers. The obtained results confirm the theoretical forecast: the application of a diversified EMC in an algorithmic-type discipline ensures outpacing growth in professional motivation compared to cognitive and activity-based criteria, demonstrating its role as the primary determinant of professional development at the initial stage.
