Abstract. In the article the conditions of the formation of the motivation to study a foreign language of the students of technical higher education establishments and the basic kinds of motivation are considered. The topicality of the research is doubtless. Though the necessity to know a foreign language and its importance for the specialists of various spheres of activity are well understood, the graduates of non-linguistic higher educational establishments have difficulties while mastering a foreign language.
