Abstract. The article reveals the content of the notion "home reading" and defines its role while teaching foreign languages. The authors of this work support the traditional methodology of home reading arrangement marking out three stages of working with any text: pre-text stage, text stage, post-text stage. The main criteria of choosing a text are given and the tasks used at each stage of working with a text are considered.
