IDEAL “POLE” OF SKEPTICAL UNIVERSE: IMAGE OF ENGLISHMAN IN CREATIVE WORKS OF GAITO GAZDANOV

Abstract. The author analyzes one of the key concepts of G. Gazdanov’s artistic philosophy – the figure of “Englishman”, and tells that this positively marked concept, characterized by the stable set of features (which include: physicality, level of culture, psychological subtlety, dynamics, ethical clarity, mental harmony, resoluteness, “predictability”, “traditionality”), has two variants – “ironic” and “respectful” ones.
