Abstract. The authors reveal the notion “occasional word” and the problems that the translator may face in the translation of this type of vocabulary, and pay special attention to the ways of translation and to the explanation of the choice of one or another strategy for its implementation by the example of one of the most popular works of fiction in the 21 st century in the series of novels about Harry Potter by J. K. Rowling and its Russian version, made by the executives of ROSMAN Publishing House.
