Abstract.
The author ascertains the significance of studying phraseological units in pragmatic aspect, traces the connection between pragmatics and the connotative meaning of phraseological units, pays particular attention to the analysis of the English set phrases contextual representation in fiction, considers the communicative intentions of the subject of speech, communicative-pragmatic situations, and determines the speech situation influence on the choice of a phraseological unit.
