TEXTUAL CRITERION OF THE LANGUAGE OF THE SWEDISH POLITICAL DISCOURSE (BY THE EXAMPLE OF THE REALIZATION OF THE KEY CONCEPT “UTVECKLING”)

Abstract.
Textual criterion of the Swedish political discourse (SPD) is considered taking into account the basic textual categories of the Swedish parliamentary articles united by the common topical concept “UTVECKLING” (“development”). The basic functions of this type of texts are persuasion and stimulus for an action. The author identifies that dominating textual structure in this type of texts is an argumentative structure which includes thesis, arguments and syllogism (rule of inference). The level of complication of the argumentative structure of a text depends on the integration of the descriptive and explicative fragments into the matrix structure, and also on the presence of counter-argumentation. Under realization of the super-frequent concept “UTVECKLING” in the Swedish political discourse the argumentative texts are characterized by the dominance of the objective alethic modality (modality of necessity) which characterizes the statement on the whole.
