Abstract. The article shows the usefulness of the project work in the English language classes for the formation of a number of competences which are necessary for a modern specialist. The authors prove the efficiency of the use of the informal methods of assessment of project activity by the example of the project “The Creation of the English-Speaking Environment of the University” made by the post-graduates of Lobachevsky State University of Nizhni Novgorod.
