Abstract.
The article examines the notion of a phaseological unit in the French and Russian linguistics; the peculiarities of familiar and vernacular phraseology are given. All theoretical statements are proved by plentiful illustrative examples. The peculiarities of the French phraseological units are revealed by means of the comparative analysis of the original and the translation of the novel by A. Nothomb “Antichrist” and “Tokyo Fiancée”.
