TRANSMISSION OF THE PUNCTUATION AND GRAPHICAL MEANS OF THE MODERN FRENCH PROSE INTO THE TRANSLATED TEXT

Abstract.
The article examines the transmission of the role of the punctuation and graphical elements creating the stylistic pattern of a text, in particular, the techniques to reconstruct punctuation means while translating French fiction into Russian. Comparative research dedicated to punctuation enables to identify such features of the punctuation system which remain unnoticed under individual, “internal” examination of the languages. Analyzing translations of Frédéric Beigbeder’s works made by different translators the author concludes that in the practice of translation there is a stable tendency to transmit author’s original punctuation as a stylistic means with its own semantics.
