Abstract.
The article examines two interconnected subsystems - prosodic and semantic - as a stable linguistic integrity. The analysis of the two subsystems in the context of their interaction in the English discourse has not been a subject of detailed examination yet. The paper emphasizes the complicated equilibrium of the prosodic and semantic systems; the author points out that the coherence of the investigated subsystems generates harmony which is so essential to implement the process of communication.
