Abstract. The paper dwells on the problem what criteria are the basic ones to distinguish the mediation terminological system and to differentiate the ADR (alternative dispute resolution) sphere terms and the proper mediation terms. The author establishes the boundaries of the mediation terminological system and identifies the meaningful intersections with the other terminologies with a view to develop the principles to regulate the mediation terminology structure, to eliminate the unambiguous interpretations of the terms and excessive synonymy and polysemy.
