Abstract. The article examines the phraseological units with the verbs of rest in the English and Russian languages. The semantic peculiarities of the above mentioned units are studied, a comparative analysis is conducted. An attempt is made to reveal the common and specific in two different systemic languages. While sampling and analysis 65 phraseological units with the component of the verb of rest are found out in the English language, and in the Russian language there are 58. In the paper it is attempted to classify these phraseological units, basing on the above mentioned feature.
