Abstract. The work is devoted to the research of metaphorical modelling in scientific geological discourse by the material of the Russian and English languages. The cognitive metaphorical models implemented in the system of metaphorical nominations are an object of consideration. In the fragment under study the sources of metaphorical modelling are human images, artifacts, as well as animals and plants, which are transferred to the sphere of ​​geological objects. As a result of the study the features of the formation of metaphorical models in the terminological system of geology in two languages are identified.
