Abstract. The article discovers the meaning of the concept “gender” in linguistics. The authors emphasize the necessity to make an adequate translation of literary texts with the gender component. The paper examines the specifics of preserving gender component at the morphological level. The translations of the story by E. A. Poe “The Black Cat” served as the material for research.
