Abstract. The article examines pragmatic peculiarities of code-switching from the German language in the prose by W. Kaminer. Code-switching is one of the forms of language contact. They are frequently used in the works by writers-bilinguals. The pragmatics of code-switching in the speech of characters of literary works has similar features with switching in the oral speech of bilinguals, that is why for their analysis in a literary work one may use the same functional models as while describing this phenomenon in the oral communication. In the course of a detailed analysis of code-switching the author comes to conclusion about the implementation of its pragmatic functions in the works under examination.
