Abstract.
The article is devoted to the problem of teaching reading to foreign students. It is shown that the purpose of teaching reading is to reveal semantic links of a speech work presented in the written form. To learn to read it is necessary to develop certain skills and abilities. The paper gives an example of working with the text “The First Cosmonaut Yu. A. Gagarin”.
