Abstract.
The article examines the place of J. B. Priestley in the literary process of Great Britain, and also analyzes his views on dramaturgy, creation and staging of a dramatic work. In his work “The Art of the Dramatist” the writer formulates rules that the beginning playwright should follow, concentrating on such notions as “dramatic experience”, “theatrical convention”, “duality” and “theatrical poetry” that are consistently revealed in his work. These theoretical foundations of dramatic art are formed within the framework of the realistic method.
