THE USE OF MEANS OF TAXIS EXPRESSION IN THE BRITISH AND AMERICAN VARIANTS OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE

Abstract.
The article is devoted to the comparative analysis of the means of the realization of taxis semantics in the British and American variants of modern English. In the course of the analysis the author comes to the conclusion that there is no difference in the inventory of the means of the realization of taxis semantic functions and concludes that intervariant discrepancies can be limited to the frequency of the functioning of various combinations of temporal forms used to express the relations of simultaneity, precedence and sequence. Then the author makes an attempt to explain the revealed discrepancies from the positions of the theory of spatial psychology.
