WORD-FORMING AND SEMANTIC POTENTIAL OF THE WORD “HALB” IN THE GERMAN LANGUAGE

Abstract.
The component “halb” has a rich word-forming and semantic potential. On the one hand, the word “halb” is a derivational base for the formation of verbs, adverbs, nouns and other parts of speech. Suffixation and composition occupy a dominant position in the methods of their production. On the other hand, the semantic possibilities of this word are realized in the projection of the semes of its various lexical-semantic variants on the semantic structure of its derivatives, both directly and indirectly. Composites with the first component “halb” are mostly monosemantic, they rarely have two meanings, and one word has three lexical-semantic variants. Derivatives with “halb” are productive and frequent in German, especially in its informal speech.
