Corpus Analysis as a Tool for Identifying Semantic Changes of Phraseological Units - Translator’s “False Friends”

Abstract.
The aim of the study is to determine whether the method of corpus analysis is efficient in identifying the changes happening to semantics of phraseological units - translator’s “false friends” in the German-Russian language pair. Scientific novelty of the research lies in the fact that a comparative-contrastive study of phraseological units, presented in the article, is based not just on reviewing lexicographical sources but to a large extent is contingent on working with the German corpus DeReKo, which determines study of the “living” language with all its current changes and features. As a result, it has been proved that corpus analysis is the most efficient method for studying phraseological units and shifts in their semantics.
