Abstract.
The study aims to determine the commonality and specificity in associative portrayal of three languages - English, Russian and Khakass - in correlation with the sociolinguistic hierarchy of languages and respondents’ linguistic loyalty, taking into account their ethnicity. Scientific novelty of the study lies in identifying the associative opposition of neutral pragmatism in relation to a foreign language and emotional positivism in the assessment of native languages. As a result, it has been proved that psycholinguistic meanings in the characteristics of the languages reflect the actually existing sociolinguistic aspects of the status hierarchy and the communicative power of languages in correlation with the level of linguistic loyalty towards native languages.
