Comparative study of case systems in Russian and Hindi: Typological and functional perspectives

Abstract. This study aims to determine the general objective of the typological and functional comparison of the Russian case system and the karaka system in Hindi. The article presents a comparative analysis of morphological, syntactic, and semantic phenomena, emphasizing aspects such as prototypical characteristics, synthetic and analytic strategies, and variance in grammatical means. Scientific novelty consists in the systematization of case systems of Russian and Hindi with specification of their differences and similarities. The findings show that the Russian system follows a synthetic strategy (inflection), whereas Hindi adopts an analytic strategy (postpositive elements). As a result of the study, we have determined the main differences in the functioning of the case systems of both languages, which revealed the features of their syntactic organization and semantic interpretation.
