Foreign-language borrowings as a way of forming the lexicon of the German railway sociolect

Abstract.
The aim of the research is to identify the peculiarities of the process of lexical borrowing from other languages by the German railway sociolect, both in diachronic and synchronic aspects. The article investigates the sources of foreign-language borrowings, the history of the development of their terminological sememes, the nature of their form, and certain features of assimilation. The scientific novelty of the research lies in the fact that, for the first time, the types, forms, and sources of foreign-language borrowings in the German railway sociolect have been identified and described, as well as the peculiarities of their linguistic assimilation. The work has established that the German railway terminology contains not only actual borrowings (material, semantic, structural-semantic), but also so-called pseudo-borrowings, i.e., composite formations made up of borrowed elements. Many foreign-language borrowings in this sociolect tend to Germanize through both assimilation and their replacement with analogues formed from German elements, which leads to the obsolescence of these borrowed lexemes. It is assumed that this trend will continue, and certain Anglicisms and pseudo-Anglicisms will eventually be displaced by German equivalents.
