Features of the use of gerundial constructions in translation from Italian and in the Calabrian dialect

Abstract.
This article is devoted to the study of the variability of the use of gerundial constructions in modern Italian and the Calabrian dialect. The aim of the research is to identify the features of usage, functions, semantic load of gerundial constructions when translating a literary work from standard Italian into the Calabrian dialect. The scientific novelty of this study is determined by the fact that the selected grammatical category of the Italian language is studied for the first time in domestic linguistics in the context of comparing its use in the translation of a work of art from standard Italian into the Calabrian dialect. During the research, a partial discrepancy was established in the texts of the original and the translation, which is manifested in the replacement in the translation text of the gerund by another construction and, conversely, the use of the gerund in the translation where it is not represented in the original. The results of the study also showed that the gerund has a special illocutionary force, shifting, in contrast to other verbal structures, the semantic emphasis from the object of the action to the action itself, which changes the perception of the text by the recipient.
