Abstract.
The reviewed monograph presents an attempt to reconstruct the verb system of the written language of Lithuanian Rus’ in the 16th-17th centuries. The analysis is based on the published Gospels of Matthew and Mark by Vasilii Tiapinskii, which juxtapose a column of Church Slavonic text with a column in “prosta mova”, known in literature as West Russian / Ruthenian / Old Belarusian. The monograph describes linguistic variability in the area of verb inflection, arising, in part, as a result of Polish language influence. The appendices to the monograph contain text of the source material set in Cyrillica Bulgarian, a morphologically categorized list of verb forms present in the text, a verb index, and a facsimile reproduction of the pages of the source.
