Names of utensils in Siberian Turkic languages in comparison with Mongolian ones

Abstract. The aim of the study is to determine the semantic features of lexical units denoting the names of utensils in the Yakut, Altai, Khakas, and Tuvan languages. The article analyzes the names of vessels made of leather, birch bark, and wood, intended for containing, storing, and transporting milk and other products, as well as the names of various kitchen utensils for cooking. The scientific novelty of this study lies in the fact that, for the first time, a systematization of the names of utensils in the Yakut, Altai, Khakas, and Tuvan languages is proposed, based on the materials of manufacture (leather, wood, birch bark). The presence of terms with identical or similar semantics reaffirms the hypothesis that the Yakut, Altai, Khakas, and Tuvan languages were in a state of close contactual relationship. As a result of the research, it was revealed that the considered lexical units, from the point of view of etymology, represent both common Turkic words and borrowings from Mongolian and Russian languages. A significant part has passed into the passive vocabulary, which is associated with changes in the everyday life, lifestyle, and traditions of the Turkic-speaking peoples of Siberia.
