The conceptual metaphor “Life is a path” in Arabic phraseology: a linguocultural aspect (based on Arabic phraseology)

Abstract.
The paper investigates the representation of the conceptual metaphor “Life is a journey” / “Life is a path” (الحياة طريق [al-hayat tariq]) in Arabic phraseological units selected from the thematic category “To go through life”. The research aims to substantiate the linguocultural specificity of the representation of the conceptual metaphor “Life is a journey” / “Life is a path” in Arabic phraseology as a reflection of the peculiarities of the Arab worldview and value system. The scientific novelty of the research lies in developing a comprehensive classification of Arabic phraseological units that manifest the specific characteristics of the conceptual metaphor “Life is a journey” / “Life is a path”, conducted for the first time using Arabic language material. Unlike previous works that focused on specific aspects or general patterns of Arabic phraseology, this study aims to identify and systematize phrasemes reflecting specific notions of life, such as overcoming obstacles, finding the right direction, and achieving goals in accordance with religious and moral principles. Thus, for the first time in Arabic linguistics, a systematic analysis of these aspects of the “Life is a journey” / “Life is a path” metaphor’s representation is proposed, allowing for a deeper understanding of the linguocultural features of the Arab worldview. As a result of analyzing Arabic phraseological units representing the conceptual metaphor “Life is a journey” / “Life is a path”, it has been established that life in the Arabic linguistic consciousness is often conceptualized as an active and purposeful movement along a complex route, requiring not only physical and moral efforts (patience, perseverance) but also orientation towards generally accepted moral and ethical norms important for Arab culture. Specifically, phraseological units have been identified that emphasize the necessity of overcoming obstacles on the path to achieving a goal, the importance of choosing the right direction, as well as the value of self-improvement and the pursuit of justice in accordance with traditional notions of good and evil. The semantic features of these phraseological units have been determined, reflecting specific cultural connotations associated with the Arab worldview and value system.
