The problem of evaluation of text cohesion considering genre-discursive variability (based on the English-language texts of scientific and political discourse)

Abstract.
The aim of the research is to identify parameters for assessing the degree of text cohesion in the context of genre-discursive variability. The scientific novelty of the study is that it is the first one to identify a list of predictors for measuring different types of text cohesion (thematic, logical-semantic, referential, conceptual, and structural), which allows to assess the overall cohesion of a text using a five-step scale. It is shown that the level of overall text cohesion can be assessed by means of a neural approach, which automatically analyzes the text as a unity, and a parametric approach, which successively identifies the degree of text cohesion based on the determined predicators and their metrics. It is noted that according to the parametric cohesion scale developed, a text can be identified as “stably coherent”, “coherent”, “moderately coherent”, “unstably coherent” or “incoherent”. The results obtained revealed that the parametric approach makes it possible to successively identify a set of specific means that provide a certain degree of text cohesion considering its genre-discourse belonging.
