Confessional style in the poetry of Russian and Tatar borderland (based on the works by R. Kutuy and F. Rasuleva)

Abstract.
The paper is aimed at revealing genre strategies of confessional style in Russian-language poetry as a form of Russian and Tatar borderland representation. On the one hand, resorting to comparative-historical and contrastive-comparative methods, the differences in the confession sources and confession in Tatar and Russian poetry are explained. On the other hand, universal and unique features are identified in the structure of confessional discourse, the fundament of which is made up of the theme of mother tongue and the loss of bonds with one’s bloodline. The scientific relevance is in that for the first time, based on the works by Rustem Kutuy and Farida Rasuleva, Russian poets of Tatar origin, the structure of confession is explored within the phenomenon of artistic transculturation and the concept of hybrid identity. The results show that in R. Kutuy’s poem “The Prodigal Son”, intertextuality and associative imagery originating from Russian culture (the prodigal son archetype, the motif of his return) as well as from Tatar poetry (the images of thread, and golden grains appealing to Derdmend’s poetry) have significant meaning. Unlike R. Kutuy’s “A Treat as a Beg for Pardon” and “Confession at an Evening Dawn”, the poetics of lyrical confession in F. Rasuleva’s works is not based on the strategies of transcultural modality but is implemented in the oriental tendency in Russian literature. It is stated that the structure of “Two Languages” and “Mankurt’s Monologue” by F. Rasuleva includes the image of an “alien” sharing the experiences of the lyrical heroine and her repentance that she has lost bonds with the spiritual experience of her bloodline and her mother tongue. During structural and semantic analysis, the universal features in confessional poetics in the Tatar munajats and R. Kutuy’s lyrics are revealed. It is concluded that the dramatical mode in lyrical heroes’ “soul biography” in multilingual texts is revealed in its own way through the image of the wind, i.e., the sign of earthshattering changes and inevitable events in life.
