Abstract. The author studies the specific characteristics of extremist crimes as a criminal-legal category, reveals the main features which conditioned their essence, considers these crimes specific motive as the main characteristic, which is a qualifying one; specifies the features that characterize such a motive, as well as suggests the definition of extremist crimes.
