RATIONALITY OF MODERN NETWORK SOCIETY

Abstract. The author considers the notion "rationality" in reference to the social networks of the Internet, takes as a working definition of rationality the following one: a tendency to act optimally in order to achieve one’s goals, emphasizes that networks existed long ago, tells that the feature of contemporary networks is that they are based on the latest information technology means of communication, raises the questions about the meaning of rational action in network society, and therefore analyzes the philosophical outlook of modern society, represented by radical constructivism, postmodernism and chaos theory, concludes that the virtual culture of networks is a new form of rationality, which essence is revealed in the following aspects: hypertextuality, space compression, timeless time, etc.
