NORTHERN BUDDHISM INFLUENCE ON MONGOLIA POLITICAL AND SOCIAL-PUBLIC LIFE AT THE END OF THE XIX TH – THE BEGINNING OF THE XX TH CENTURY

Krainova Lyubov' Nikolaevna
Eastern-Siberian State Academy of Education

Abstract. The article discusses the expansion of Buddhism and the influence of the Lamaist Church as one of the factors of Mongolia subordination to China. Basing on the sources of the XIX th century, Buddhism is considered not only as an instrument of this territory subordination to the neighboring state, but also as a factor of the preservation of the Mongolian people’s culture, identity, and self-consciousness. Special attention is paid to the fact that Buddhism, which was used as an instrument to conquest the Mongolian people by the Qing authorities, was a unifying force that contributed to their integration.
