Abstract. The main features of the social origin, national and gender composition, age, education character and career promotion specificity of Orenburg regional party committee secretaries, seen as typical for the given historical period, are investigated on the basis of the analysis of the personal records of regional political elite representatives. In addition, the comparative analysis of these characteristics of the mentioned category of political elite in 1965-1985 and during the "restructuring" of 1985-1991 is conducted.
